Finally!! I'm posting some pictures of our finished kitchen! Yay! It seems fitting to post them on Thanksgiving when so many of us will be spending so much time in our kitchens. Not me though, we'll be celebrating with my parents and my brother and his family. Hence the reason I have time to take photos and write a blog post. I won't say too much, because I know you'd rather just see the pics, other than I'm absolutely head over heels for the space. When we moved in this home 5 years ago, I cut my kitchen size down to about 1/3 of what I had in our previous home. Surprisingly, I've learned that I prefer cooking in a smaller kitchen. It's more efficient, easier to clean up {especially the floors} and you are forced to keep only what you really need and use often. My dream kitchen would have space for a long farmhouse table in the middle
like this one, but other than that, I really couldn't ask for more. I'm nuts about the paint colors, the fabrics, the lighting, the sink, faucet, counters, gas cooking, and open shelving. I wanted the finished space feel feel warm and utilitarian at the same time. Like a cross between a cozy English country kitchen and the movie kitchen from It's Complicated. I feel like I accomplished it! {please excuse my lack of styling. I didn't notice the wine bottle till I was on my last picture and I didn't have a chance to run to the store and buy pretty flowers, so a handful of parsley in a glass sufficed ~ keeping it real my friends!}

DeleteI'm in TOTAL love! What a feast for my eyes! So glad you share sources because I had so many gasps and "Where did she find that?" moments! You have a gift with fabric. And is it just me or did that not take too terribly long...other than the decision making process! Wink! SO happy for you. I was just talking about you at dinner with my my husband tonight...about how your love of baking and the care you take to wrap and give baked goods away makes my heart happy. I'm not a baker, but the love you put into it makes me smile. :) Happy Thanksgiving to you, sweet kindred spirit! xo!

Your kitchen is so lovely. Thanks for letting us come along with all of your Instagram pics too. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your kitchen - what a beautiful job you did making it unique and cozy. I love the hardware, details, window treatment, dish displays...well I think I love it all! Amazing job!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Two windows! And that long one is killer. You did a great job....happy cooking.
ReplyDeleteYou did such a beautiful job. I would love to use that fabric on roman shades in our kitchen. I have a question for you. There is a connecting family room and I am wondering if you think I could combine these with bamboo shades in the connected family room? Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletethe fabric would look gorgeous as drapery or as a valence with a bamboo shade. i probably wouldn't do a roman shade and a bamboo shade on the same window though, but that is just personal preference. the fabric was order through Hollywood Home.
DeleteI just found you through a pic of your kitchen on pinterest!! Fantastic job! I am in love with the roman shades, particularly the trim, could your provide more info on the color/manufacturer/where you got it? And did your seamstress sew it on or did you add it yourself? Thanks so much! Happy Thanksgiving! Kira
ReplyDeletesure, thank you. the banding was made and sew on by my seamstress out of this fabric: http://lsfabrics.com/fabric/slubby-linen-93
DeleteGorgeous Tessa, just gorgeous!! I didn't expect anything less from you - so classic & timeless. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIts' Beautiful! May you have many memorable good times with your family friends in your new kitchen....
Happy Thanksgiving!
Take care,
Claudia
Tessa,
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing with all of us!
I'm considering using the same fabric in my den/kitchen windows, and I was wondering if you used the desert sand on cream color. I have some browns in my den and was wondering if you think it will go with browns. In particular this fabric: http://www.calicocorners.com/product/designer+fabrics+for+the+home/shop+fabrics+by+color/beige+and+tan/checkmate+biscuit.do?search=basic&keyword=check&sortby=priceAscend&page=1
thanks,
Elba
Hi Tessa, I love your kitchen!!! So beautiful and warm, love everything! What a perfect place for your precious family memories to be made. Hope your Thanksgiving weekend continues to be great!
ReplyDeletetake care,
Robin
What a lovely kitchen ~ the colors and finishes are so elegant! It's evident that your research and careful choices earned you the look you wanted. All that's missing is that red le creuset on the cooktop! Happy holidays, Tracey
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I think one of my favorite details is the shade made from Lisa Fine Textiles fabric. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is beautiful...love your faucet.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Stunning! It is beautiful. I absolutely love the brass pendants, cabinet hardware and door knobs. You tied it all together beautifully and made it still look like it could have been original to the house. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely homey kitchen! It has such a timeless feel. And brass around the white knobs is unusual and perfect...as are the pendents. Congratulations on a job well done.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for your kitchen to be filled with many memories in the making.
Gorgeous!!! Absolutely beautiful, Tessa. It must be a joy to cook in! Definitely worth the wait to see these beautiful pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add that I think you could leave this post up all year and I'd still come back every week to look at it! :) xoxo!
ReplyDeleteso sweet! xoxo
DeleteHow beautiful! I would love to cook in this kitchen! You did a fantastic job...the perfect mix of modern appliances with old world charm. Just beautiful! Ana
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I'll never get tired of looking at your home, Tessa...makes me want to start all over on mine!!! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving...Michelle
ReplyDeleteP.S. Just curious...how do you like the Farrow & Ball paint? I've heard great things about the quality of the pigments...would you use it again?
DeleteWell done on how you combined all the elements in your kitchen. Love how elegant everything is together...nothing upstages anything else, but all together as a whole...wow! I would never tire of this space! Enjoy!
hi michelle!! thank you so much!! :) we just got back from vacation and I missed my kitchen while we were gone. it is such a small space and nothing like anyone's typical dream kitchen, but it makes me happy. so thank you for the compliments. regarding the paint, the painters said it was nice to work with, said it was very thick but went nicely. to be honest, i can't really tell the difference between FB and the ben moore paint i have everywhere else in the house. but i fell in love with their colors and i liked the way they changed with the shifting light i have in our kitchen, so that's why I choose them. I have oil paint on all my woodwork in the house and I absolutely love it, so the real test for the FB paint is how it will hold up compared to the oil based paint everywhere else. it's too soon to tell. hope you had a nice thanksgiving!!! xoxo
DeleteTwo words: Absolutely Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi! I love love your kitchen. Can you tell me about your countertops? Are they marble or something else? Also do you your shades pull down or are they "faux" roman shades? Last question, did you update your existing cabinets or are they new? I have a 50's kitchen and it seems like a lot of these ideas could be implemented without new cabinets!
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, thank you. My counters are Silestone, which is quartz. i am very happy with them. My shades are real romans but I will never lower them. My seamstress had to make them into real shades to get the look I wanted with the folds. The cabinets are solid cherry and they were in the kitchen when we moved in, but are not original to the house. The were in really good shape so replacing them didn't make sense. I think cherry and maple cabinets paint beautifully b/c you can't see the wood grain. Good luck with your kitchen!
DeleteSo ...you have returned from vaca to your kitchen - the other "happiest place on earth". :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely kitchen. You clearly poured your heart in to each and every choice and detail and it shows. So impressed with the charm and warmth of your remodel and the subtlety of the improvements and updates. Your selections were respective of your home's style. Not an easy task with sooooo many options to choose from - admire your diligence.
Mostly want to say - What a PRETTY kitchen!
Thank you so very much for sharing !
Tessa,
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize I never commented on this gorgeous, gorgeous space!!!! Ahhhh......It's so soothing, relaxing and cozy! I love every. single. element. you have chosen. And you know, I'm so glad you chose not to do the soapstone after seeing it all together. I love the paint color you chose for the cabinets and the lighting just sets it off in my opinion! Very well done, my friend!
xoxo
Tessa - your kitchen is absolutely lovely! I enjoyed looking at it last month when you posted, but wanted to ask you about your GE Cafe range. We are renovating our home and I'm considering GE Cafe (would be the same dual fuel range). Are you pleased with it? I do a ton of cooking so I want to make sure it can stand up to the job!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much and beautiful job with your kitchen!
Hugs,
Rachel
Hi Rachel,
DeleteAs you know I do A LOT of cooking too, and so far so good with the range. I really do like it, I'm happy to have gas again after 5 years without it, and the oven seems to be reliable. The 5 burners offer a lot of flexibility and good flame control, plus the simmer burner is a true simmer. I also like the look, the big chunky knobs, the grate design, etc. In the price range it is still my favorite option. I would not say that I LOVE the range though. I really wanted the durability of a true professional range like a Viking. I tried to rationalize that I could live without, but honestly, I still wish I had just gotten what I really wanted. I probably will buy my dream range in about 5 years. The reviews on Garden Web are very spot on to my experience thus far, so I would suggest reading those as well. Good luck!! xo
ps. if you don't need a slide in, I would also suggest looking at Blue Star, if I didn't have my stove in my island I would have gotten a Blue Star.
Tessa,
DeleteThanks for the feedback. That is what I have heard about GE Cafe, for the price, that it really is the best (I need the slide in, too). I'm with you on the TRUE pro ranges, I keep telling myself that I'll have a 48" viking in our forever home someday! We'll see about that : ) -Rachel
Hi Tessa-
ReplyDeleteI am looking at the silestone lagoon (as well as misty carrara from caesarstone) as an alternate to marble. From the tiny samples I've seen in person and online, the silestone looks a bit more natural and a little cooler in color overall. Are you happy with the silestone? Overall does it read as a white or a grey? Is it a cool tone? Do you by any chance have any more pictures? I would love to see a larger area to get a better look at the patterns. It is so hard to tell from a 2x3 piece! Your photos have been really helpful so far, thanks!
Just beautiful! I think the circa lights MAKE the space!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous Tessa! I love everything about it. Quick question for you...how did you attach your sink skirt? I'd like to do one of the in y kitchen, and would really prefer not to use a tension rod unless absolutely necessary. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteRachel
i do use a tension rod. it works well and is invisible. i tried a couple other options too, but this was the easiest.
DeleteOops! Forgot to also leave you my email address. Can you pass along your seamstress' info? Thanks again! rachelgill3@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteRachel, I will leave it here and I'll email you too. My seamstress is Linda Spille, her cell number is 513-706-7018 and her email is lindaspille@gmail.com.
DeleteOops! Forgot to also leave you my email address. Can you pass along your seamstress' info? Thanks again! rachelgill3@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous kitchen! Would you consider adding more pictures of your counters? I would love to have marble in my kitchen, but need something more practical. The blog you did about counters was so helpful and I am almost positive I am going with Lagoon as well. It is so hard to find good pictures online though-so I appreciate the ones you did put up! Love your home and decorating ideas-thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTotally gorgeous!!! I love the brass lights over the island, and the w/t's are fabulous!!! The single sconce is divine, very English country!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your kitchen... I just stumbled upon it from Ness Lockyer... now I'm off to explore the rest of your blog. :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!!
DeleteHi Tessa,
ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party and just started following your blog. It is fabulous! I headed over after reading Jenny Steffens Hobick's blog post which linked to your new kitchen. It's gorgeous! And has me rethinking my own kitchen. Well done :)
Your kitchen is gorgeous! I really like your countertops, did you go with the 1" edge or larger? Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I went with the standard thickness and basic edge. They are just a bit over an inch. Almost an inch and a quarter.
DeleteThanks for responding so quickly! I appreciate it! :-)
DeleteBeautiful kitchen! Was wondering...now that you've been using it for a few months now...do you still like the sink and faucet? Just wondering how they're holding up. Thanks for any input you have.
ReplyDeleteYes! The sink took a little getting used to b/c I'm on the taller side and it sits lower than our old one, but now that I'm used to that I absolutely LOVE it and would list it at the top of my favorite things in the kitchen! Couldn't live without it! The faucet is heavy duty and I expect should hold up well for years to come. It's a beauty and super functional. wouldn't choose differently!
Deletethanks for your input! I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your kitchen! I'm beginning the process of redoing mine and I have been doing a lot of research and I love everything about your kitchen! I know you do a lot of cooking and I have a question on the practical side! Where do you keep your garbage can? Right now mine is under my sink but if I go with the Shaw farmhouse sink,(which I love!), I'm afraid it will do away with the cabinet space under the sink and there won't be room for the garbage can! I have a relatively small kitchen too, so space is at a premium!
ReplyDeleteI was also wondering if the sink was hard to get used to since it's rather low, but I saw your previous response!
Thanks so much!
Stacy
Stacy, so funny that you are the first to ask about this! honestly, i keep a small trashcan out and by the island. It's relatively inconspicuous and I like that I can easily pull it next to me when I'm prepping food. But when we have company (or i take pics for the blog! ha!) i pop it in the garage which is right next to my kitchen and keep a small one under the sink for those occasions too. You'll still have space for a small one with the sink but unless you want to take out the trash multiple times a day, you'll need another larger one nearby. Not ideal, but it's worth it to have the sink. I too used to keep our old trash under the sink. I adore the sink. There is more splashing with the type of faucet I choose and such a deep sink but you get used to that too and i wouldn't choose otherwise. Best of luck!
DeleteChecking in to see if you are happy with your sink and faucet. Love reading the comments and that you are still pleased. Did you get the sink grid that goes in the bottom to protect the surface?
ReplyDeleteClara
i did not, but probably should! :)
DeleteHey Tessa, I'm revisiting this post as I prepare for our super budget-friendly kitchen reno. I saw where you listed the source on your shelf brackets, but I'm wondering about the actual shelves? It seems like such an easy part of the process, but I'm finding that I'm not sure of the best place to source them. Thanks!
ReplyDeletewe had the shelves custom made and professionally hung too. the carpenter added extra wall + shelf support too allow for heavier loads and prevent warping. good luck with your reno!!
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa! Just wondering where you keep your bread. Do you have a special bread cabinet? Starting plans to remodel our kitchen and wanted to see if you have any thoughts on that. thanks! Elba
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa! Just wondering where you keep your bread. Do you have a special bread cabinet? Starting plans to remodel our kitchen and wanted to see if you have any thoughts on that. thanks! Elba
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa! Just wondering where you keep your bread. Trying to figure out if I should include a hidden bread cabinet in our kitchen remodel. thanks, Elba
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa, I'm just wondering where you keep your bread. I'm trying to figure out if I should include plans for a hidden bread cabinet in our kitchen remodel. thanks, Elba
ReplyDeletesorry, I just posted the same question so many times. Please feel free to delete some of them or all of them including this one. I just figured how to work this comment section! Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteWe keep it in a basket in the pantry.
ReplyDeleteTessa - Hi!! We are considering the GE Cafe, as well, but I just seen the actual range in a local Home Depot store and was surprised by the coloring of the stainless. It was right next to another stainless model of a different brand and it was clearly different. It almost looked like it had a gold tint to it. Since then, we have seen 2 other GE models and each one is the same way. It seems the stainless is just a bit different than other brands stainless. The thing is, though, our other appliances are not GE. I was just wondering if you have noticed this at all. Does it look like a true silver stainless? Does it match your other appliances? THANKS!!
ReplyDeletehi tammy, hmmm, that seems strange. we have other brands of SS appliances in the kitchen and the range seems to match exactly. it sits opposite a bosch dishwasher and the finish looks identical. no gold tint at all. good luck!

ReplyDeleteSorry - another quick question. We are trying to decide between Silestone Lyra and Silestone Lagoon. Are you pretty happy with your choice in Lagoon? Would you say that the base color is a gray or more of a neutral off-white? Our cabinets will be painted Benjamin Moore White Dove. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeletei think it depends on the look you want. the Lyra was too white for our kitchen, but we don't have any real white in there other than the dishes and sink, so it felt off. the lagoon is def. more gray but compliments our cabinet, wall and trim colors far better. it is often confused for marble by others but honestly i think if you truly want the look of marble you'll only be happy with the real thing, you need to love the quartz on it's own if that makes sense. both options are very pretty but i'd choose quartz all over again!
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa - Love your kitchen!! Can you tell me the size of the clear canisters that you have your flour an and sugar in on the counter? Thanks!
ReplyDeletethey are from Target. They sell two sizes, I have the larger of the two. fits almost 2 bags of flour in one!
DeleteHi Tessa- LOVE your kitchen. Can you tell me the size of the clear canisters you have your flour and sugar in on the counter?
ReplyDeleteTessa, quick question on your counters. Did you go with just a standard eased edge? It looks like it. Have you noticed any chips, especially around your sink? I've been warned by our fabricator (Silestone Lagoon is what we chose, too) that the eased edge is prone to chipping. I'm a little worried about my decision. Maybe I should switch to a double radius or pencil edge. THANKS!
ReplyDeleteinteresting. in all my research i never read or heard of that being a problem. and no, not with us either and we are hard on them. so far so good with ours and they do have the standard edge. we do have an under-mount sink, not sure if that makes it better or worse, but i wouldn't worry too much. i think fabricators want everyone to get granite. at least that's how if felt when we were looking. they pushed granite so hard and discouraged everything else! good luck!
DeleteGreat looking kitchen, what finish Rohl bridge faucet is that? Is it the polished nickel?
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteGreat looking kitchen. Do you remember which finish you chose on the Rohl Bridge Faucet? Is it the polished nickel?
ReplyDeleteHi Tessa! I am wanting to use the knobs you did on your cabinets for an antique dresser turned vanity in my bathroom remodel. Question - did you choose the antique brass finish or polished brass? It is hard to tell from the photos and on their website the antique brass looks brushed and much more brown, but I am afraid the polished might be too much?? Appreciate your help!
ReplyDeleteTessa, I love following you!!! Your kitchen is so happy. Wonderful work. I would love to know the answer about the cabinet knobs too. Antique brass finish or polished brass? Thank you in advance! :)
Deletehi-could you tell me about your cooktop? Does it have a hood or a downdraft? Love your kitchen by the way! I bet wonderful memories and dinners are made in it!
ReplyDeletethank you. no, there is not a downdraft. we had one before on our old stove and found it useless. the built in down drafts have a pretty bad reputation, based on my research. Having a range hood is much more efficient. I worried a bit about grease on the ceiling, but after 3 years there isn't any. If I'm frying or have something creating a lot of smoke, I just open the window next to my stove to release it. I also haven't had any issue with lingering food smells. though sometimes I wish i did b/c I tend to like the smell of what I'm cooking! :)
ReplyDeleteI have revisited your lovely kitchen often for inspiration, and as I think of our options for our own space, I was wondering if you could share the dimensions of your kitchen as well as that of your island. It would help give me a better sense of what might be realistic in my own footprint.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I accomplished it! {please excuse my lack of styling.
ReplyDelete
