Blog Anniversary | Pic-A-Day

On Saturday, this blog turned 2! This marks my 362nd post! What?!?! I look back at some of my original posts and cringe a bit.  This blog, like me, continues to evolve over time.  I'm still finding my voice, figuring out just what I want this space to be and how I want to share the things I enjoy and document our life as a family.  I thank you for joining me on the journey! {I feel like I'm on the Bachelor whenever I use that word. "journey"}

I'd be remiss not to say, that of late, blogging has lost a bit of its luster for me.  When I first discovered blogs I fell hard and fast.  I was utterly infatuated with the abundance of creative, witty and inspiring women and their seemingly endless supply of pretty homes, lifestyles, clothing, children, etc. But with time, that infatuation has worn off. Some. Part of the reason is my life has changed.

I no longer have a baby that naps most of the day, I'm reading more books, exercising regularly, and experimenting in the kitchen more than I was a couple years ago, all of which contribute a significant dent in my "blog time".  And then there's the iphone and pinterest, a much faster way to load up on my daily pretty/inspiration quotient.

So. What exactly am I trying to say?  I suppose I don't know.  I love blogging for what it has given {gives} me, great friendships + a creative outlet, but its priority in my life has shifted.  I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer on my blog anniversary, I just find it interesting how blogging fills a very different need now than it used to.  Let me be clear, I have NO intention to stop blogging. I still very much look forward to posting and reading, it's just different lately and that's ok.

So... onward I go!!!  In January I decided to challenge myself to a picture-a-day on my phone. Capturing everyday, un-styled, ordinary life.  January was great! In February I was still guns-a-blazing.  Then whoops, there went March and um, April, where on earth did April go??? Anyone?  Now here we are on May 2nd and I've completely fallen off the wagon.  Still snapping pics on my phone, not quite everyday.  And you know what? I'm perfectly ok with that too.  :) If I've learned anything from two years of blogging it's this, for me, blogging is best when taken light heartedly, when I'm not comparing myself to another blog or holding myself to some sort of self imposed standard.  This is my journal.  There are no pretenses here, no agendas, no one I'm trying to impress {but grateful you sometimes are b/c we can all use a little validation now and then.:)}  Just an everyday glimpse into whatever seems to strike my fancy.  {The phone snap-shots in this post are from March and April.} As always, thank you so very much for reading and being so supportive! Here's to another 362 posts.
xo,
Tessa

  4. Girl 362 posts seems soooooo far away...can't even think that far out! Congratulations and you know I love your blog. Life DOES change us. I've always said that people should build 3 houses in their life because our priorities and needs change as we travel on this "journey"...what we start out with does not fit us later - so we adapt and change with it. Nothing wrong with that. We, your readers, thank you for sharing your life and home and all that other good stuff with us!

  5. Have so enjoyed all 362...congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing a glimpse into your life with us. I've laughed along with you in your mama escapades with your two gorgeous children, felt saddened by the loss of your mother in law, been inspired by your lovely home and crawled out of many a cooking rut with your delicious recipes! You are a gem!

  8. Thank you for sharing your family, home & life with us here on your blog. I always enjoy reading. I've been blogging since 2007 (I can barely believe it) and blogging in general has changed significantly since then. I've thought of giving it up, but it is an important outlet for me.

Looking forward to the next 300+ posts!

Well I for one am glad you are still blogging! I found you via Holly Mathis and I've been calling in ever since. Never commented before though.

I know what you mean, if I'm not careful I could sit here all day and do nothing but read blogs. Maybe it would be different if I had my own blog, I've thought about it....we'll see.

    Very late here, better go.

    Take care

  16. I am so with you! I have like 500 posts to catch up on in my google reader. Which makes me think I just need to unsubscribe from those I never care enough about to click and read! (don't worry, yours is always a first click!) life is forever evolving and the blogging bubble might have just burst. However I still have my few addictions and I am sure they won't be going away ;) happy anniversary! I've enjoyed getting to ow you through your blog and sweet comments.

  17. A great post that really resonates with me and my feelings about blogging. I'm much less of a blogger and blog reader these days, and Nine & Sixteen is one of only a handful that I read faithfully. I'm so glad you intend to keep going!

  18. As a reader from the beginning, I have loved getting to know you through the www. I think you are doing everything you should be doing as far as your priorities go. I've reevaluated mine because, honestly, social media was sucking the life out of me and cluttering my mind. I went even as far as deleting social media apps from my iphone because of the distraction. Instead, I'm choosing what matters. Real life is greater than social media anyway. Have a great weekend, Tessa!
    Your bloggy friend,
    Elizabeth

  19. Right there with you on remaining lighthearted about blogging. There will be a time when none of us need blogging at all. Because life is like that...always changing and evolving. :)

  22. Happy Anniversary...I completely agree with you on blogging losing it's luster.
To everything there is a season, right?

It has very much shifted for me, too...trying to figure out how to fit it in to my everyday life right now.

Life is full with this husband and these kids...as it should be.

I'm glad you're blogging, and I'm glad you're staying around for as long as it fits your family.

  23. Tessa, I COMPLETELY feel ya! It's seems to get harder and harder to find the time to post let along read others (and then I feel guilty that I haven't commented in a while!) But, you blog is amazing and honest and that's what makes it so wonderful - no agenda. I hope you keep posting!
