Catching Up

HEELLLOOOO!!!!!
I'm here... Barely.
Our house was hit with a stomach bug, the flu, AND pneumonia all at once.
I swear we are diligent hand washers!
High fevers, stripping and disinfecting beds at 2:00 AM, worry, Popsicles, dry toast, thermometers, logging hours and HOURS watching PBS Sprout and Nick Jr. and attending to masses of laundry --  that pretty much sums up our daily activities around here for the last week.
We had a relatively healthy winter and seemed to dodge
every serious virus that spread like wildfire through the elementary school.
We've certainly made up for it this week.
I'd like to say that life is back to normal, but my little loves are still on the mend.

Sleep deprivation and confinement to the home for extended periods of time has got me thinking...

1. I have the most generous mother in the world.
This week could have been a very lonely and scary experience with Jimmy away on business,
but without being asked, my Mum was there for me and my children.
Words aren't enough for all she's done.
Thank you, Mum, for loving my boys as much as I do.
(These pictures were taken about 7 years ago with Andrew. Time flies.)

2. I have sketched out detailed decorating plans for things I didn't know needed decorating like our family room and master bedroom.   I made an inspiration board for the FR just for fun (and to help distract myself from the horror of shows like "Yo Gabba Gabba"), I found lamps for the living room (oh my, they are soo pretty, I can't wait to show you!!), developed fabric obsessions, and contemplated where to hang new art
(I won the paintings and the bird prints at auction!!) .

Inspiration & Ideas For A Few Family Room Changes

3.  I have been fantasizing about eating an entire 12 inch skillet of herbed baked fontina
(thank you, Ina), with a crusty baguette and a glass of good red wine.
I WILL make it happen this weekend.
And  if it's good, I'll share the recipe with you.

4. I discovered I can skip meals for several days and not lose a pound. (maybe this explains point #3)

5. This week has been plum miserable, but I still have tremendous gratitude.  Gratitude that I am able to care for my children at home, rather than the hospital (although the way Andrew's cough is going, that might be our next stop), that Jimmy was here for the worst night, that Charlie is happy to lay in my arms all day, and that my couch has washable covers.

6. Peaking out my windows it appears spring has finally arrived in southern Ohio. We might still have the heat on but there are buds everywhere!  Maybe soon we'll be able to venture out and enjoy it.

Stay healthy!!  I look forward catching up on your posts soon!
Thanks for visiting!

xo,
Tessa

  1. Tessa, welcome back. So glad everyone is on the mend. I fell off the blogging map for two weeks, wireless issues as we rearranged three different rooms in our house. The computer didn't like it very much.

You seriously need to consider a design business. You have some serious talent, my friend!

  5. So happy for your return. The bug has been nasty this year ~ sorry you and your sweet ones had to go through it and without your husband around to help.

Sweet photos of you, your mum and son ~ time goes by all too quickly.

Have a wonderful weekend and a glass of wine for me. I gave it up for Lent and I sure do miss it after a long day/week :)

  7. I'm glad your family is on the mend. Our family just went through that same thing and we're avid hand-washers as well. Those must be some strong germs! Thank heavens for wonderful mothers!!

  8. Hi Tessa, Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you were all so sick! Look at it this way, you're done for the year! I have a favor to ask. I absolutely love the bookshelves you have on either side of your family room couch. Would you email me a picture of the full room? My father is going to build me similar bookcases and it would help to have an inspiration picture. Thank you! Nicole partridgeathome@yahoo.com

  12. So sorry your crew has been sickie. It's so scary when your kids are seriously ill. Our family passed around the cooties through the entire month of February into early March. I feel your pain - Glad that it seems all are on the mend now and glad you're back!

  14. I have missed you this week Tessa. Hopefully things will settle this week. Isn't it unfair how that scale doesn't budge? Enjoy that bread & wine - you deserve it.

Those creamy panels are going to be gorgeous!

  15. Tessa,

I was starting to get worried! Or that maybe you were settling in to a more "normal" blogging schedule. But no - you're still super-blogger! : ) I'm so sorry to here you guys had such an icky week. The photo of you and your mum with Andrew are so sweet. I can't wait to see what you do with your FR. Although, I'm thinking it's looking pretty darned good! : )

  16. I'd think we were the same person if it weren't for the fact that you look way better in shorts (something I no longer attempt)...I was drooling over the fontina on Barefoot Contessa as I caught up w/ my recorded shows (yes, I stay behind in EVERYTHING...why did I think I could maintain a blog about anything remotely modern day?).

Gosh, that was a run-on sentence.

Stella had a very low grade fever all last night and I was thinking how we had missed the cooties all winter, too. I'm so sorry to hear you got it all at once. Oh, the worry. And then poof! All is well as if it never happened. I hope everybody is feeling better! xo
